Douglass, Texas Homes & Land for Sale

Living in Douglass, Texas

Douglass is a small, rural community in western Nacogdoches County, about 14 miles west of Nacogdoches on State Highway 21. It’s a place where neighbors know each other, the pace is slower, and wide-open land is never far away. If you’re looking at homes for sale in Douglass, Dawn Bridwell can help you find the right fit.

One of the Oldest Communities in East Texas

Douglass was settled around 1830 and was laid out as a town in 1836, centered on a public square. It was named for Kelsey H. Douglass, an early settler and businessman, and it had a post office as early as 1835, during the days of the Republic of Texas. The Texas Historical Commission recognizes the town with a historical marker. State Highway 21 through Douglass follows the route of the historic El Camino Real, the old royal road that connected Spanish Texas to Louisiana.

Schools

Douglass is served by Douglass Independent School District. Like many rural districts, it offers smaller classes and a close community feel that families appreciate.
